About Me

Venus Powers, self-taught artist and Mother of two beautiful boys, resides in the historic setting of Central Virginia. Her love of art began in elementary school. Winning several ribbons and art competitions from elementary on to high school, she thought she would go on to work in fashion design or advertising. However, her career in software and technology led her down a different path. She put her art aside to pursue a very rewarding technology driven career. The desire and passion to paint and create was forever in her soul, and she would go on to design brochures, logo murals for her company and endless presentations. In 1999 she was introduced Nell Powers. Nell was her my late-husband’s Aunt and considered Momaw Nell to her children. She was given a painting from Nell’s collection as a wedding gift and was inspired to focus on her love of painting in parallel to her technology career.

Venus has designed covers for local newspapers in Ballentine, SC, murals for friends in Arlington, VA and business signs and wall paintings for businesses in Buckingham and Farmville, VA. She creates originals in oil and acrylic, and she illustrates in pen and ink and watercolor. She participates in local arts and crafts shows and takes commissions and custom orders.

Venus’ most recent accomplishments was being invited to illustrate two books for local author, Francis Wood, titled The Bell Tree and A Walk to Christmas. Both are lovely books and she was honored to participate.

Venus is also the author of her own children’s book, titled The Marsh and The Pear Tree, a series she started depicted in story and illustration the adventures of her childhood.

Venus is also writing a series of novels diverse in nature and content.

Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my family and close friends
